The Effects Of bush Bashing On Martian Poppies

The Crusades, a horrible ordeal involving a Christian terrorist organization known only as: “The Roman-Catholic Church”. Sure, many muslims where eaten, and many christians died of hunger. Those have been over for hundreds of years... Right? No, about two years ago the leader of The United States of America (USA), George W. Bush (I’ll refer to him as good ‘ol Dubbyah” from here on out) made the mistake of calling his pursuit of Muslim extremist a, “Crusade”. Now, I’m not one to go around calling him a reincarnated Pope. I mean, he’s not even a Catholic Priest. However, with all that aside there are still some striking similarities, and some even more striking dis-similarities.

Lets start off with the most obvious factoid... They are both conflicts between A majority Christian region, and a majority Islamic region. This little tidbit is very important, because of how different Christian values are from the values of Islam. Muslims are willing to sacrifice anything for their religion. They would die for it , pay for it, or even kill for it. Now, on the other hand you have the Christians. Christians might have died for the sake of being Christian back then, but now we consider the Muslims naive for sacrificing themselves for 40 virgins on a cloud. So, if we are not going into battle a free ticket to paradise why are we? Well, where our faith once was strongly held in the church now they are strongly held in the “Good ‘ol USA”, and who is the leader of the USA? Why that is Dubbyah.

Now, that leads me to my next point. The current conflict was not based on the Pope calling for Christians to help out an ally in need. It was based on a great city of ours being attacked by a group who happened to be Muslim. But wait, did the Pope not call for help, because of the Turks attacking the great city of Istanbul/Constantinople/Byzantine, and the Turks where Muslim, right? Well, the answer is yes. But, that still does not make this a holy war. What makes it a holy war is that when Bush give his long winded speech about how evil the Arabs are, he, in the same breath talks about how good Jesus is. He does this, because he wants to be re-elected as President of the USA. But, see he is being seen all over the world saying this stuff. So, when in Pakistan you don’t want to be heard saying something like, “God is great, Muslims are evil” , do you?

We do have to be fair , so in moving along, I will say that this war is a lot different then the last crusade. Especially in the technology department. Where to eat on the First Crusade you had to eat people, now when we get hungry in the dessert we mind our freeze dried peas and carrots. The Christians now also have tanks and planes. The tides have turned since so long ago, and now its the Muslims, not the Christians, who have the short end of the tech stick. We have GPS systems, laser guided missiles, smart bombs and other cool gadgets. The Arabs only have rocks and guns.

There is one even bigger difference in the Crusades and the current events. The Crusades were to capture the holy lands. Now, was Palestine not returned to the Jews as Israel back in the mid 20th century or so? So the reason for continuing the conflict is not even remotely similar. We continued to pursue the “Great Evil” to get a land that is holy for a reason besides being in the Bible. It is holy, for it has vast amounts of oil. Oil means money, and money means power.

Another dis-similarity is the fact that we do not want to stay in the Middle East, and for an empire... now that is out there. We are simply liberating countries and gaining a large share of their oil. Setting up a government we can be “buddy buddy” with, and leaving. No Christian empire in the Middle East for us.

All in all I personally think that the President slipped up, and said something he didn’t mean to say and will pay for it from this day forward. And, why you ask? Well, the media tends to take things and blow them out of proportion. It happens to every President. Clinton had Monica and Roger. Bush will have his “Crusade” and his Daughters, and being AWOL, and getting a DUI and.... here we are again with things that the press have stretched out. Is it a problem with the news writers, or rather the news makers?
